That matters most in growing children, where a small correction at nine can prevent a much larger one at nineteen. It matters in adults too, where teeth have been compensating for a bite problem for decades.

Both can produce an excellent result. Fixed braces give the most direct control over difficult movements, particularly rotations and root positioning. Clear aligners are removable and nearly invisible, which suits adults who present at work every day, but they depend on you wearing them 22 hours a day.

Most comprehensive cases run 18 to 24 months, with adjustments every four to eight weeks. Limited cases — closing a gap, correcting a few front teeth — can finish in six to nine months. You get a realistic estimate at the planning appointment, not after you have committed.

Retainers follow every case. Teeth drift for life, and retention is the difference between a result that lasts two years and one that lasts thirty.
